and what is the building blocks that make the pigment.
What is the name of the part of the cell where the pigment is made?
There are many pigments in cells, but an important pigment in animals is melanin. (Other substances are pigmented, like hemoglobin, but its job is not to color things but to carry oxygen.) Getting back to melanin, its made from tyrosine and cysteine in the cytoplasm of the cells. These are 2 amino acids which come from protein. Several enzymes catalyze the several reactions that take tyrosine and cysteine to melanin.
Reply:I believe that it is the chloroplasts that create the pigment, and it is chlorophyll that is teh "building blocks" of the pigment
