My 2 yr old golden's nose has lost significant pigment over the last year.?

This is not a case of "snow nose", as the condition onset during the spring, and has progressively worsened.

I've read that kelp will help restore pigment. Has anyone experienced this problem and used kelp with any success?

If your golden uses a plastic bowl, switch to stainless or ceramic. Plastic bowls are known to cause pigment change on the nose.

I add kelp powder ( http://www.carealotpets.com/images/items... ) to my dogs' food twice a week and the faded strip on their noses (no idea what caused it but both happened after Bordetella vaccine spray) became a dark brown instead of a lighter brown. I'd say yes kelp does help.
Reply:I'd say I saw improvement after feeding kelp every day (follow the product's feeding instructions) for 3 months. Do keep in mind that kelp is a vegetable and should be mentioned to your vet when he/she asks about your dog's diet. Report It

Reply:Thanks, Wags. That additional info helps a lot. We've started him on N.R. (Natural Rearing) Seaweed Mineral Food (which actually indicates on the label that among other things, it promotes healthy pigmentation). It's really nice to know about how long before we might start to see results, though. Report It

Reply:No I haven't. I hope it's not anything serious, but I don't think it is. Try calling the vet and see what they say. Some of them will answer questions over the phone without charging.
Reply:I have used granulated Kelp in the past with my dogs and it helps, not cures. I recieved this advice from my vet.

You can find granulated Kelp in the spice aisle of most supermarkets or dried kelp. . .
