Is it just for use on the eyes instead of eye shadow?

thanks x

What is pigment?
Those are M.A.C. Pigments which are mineral powders that are very rich in color and shine. They can be used a myriad of ways and with so many different mediums. They can be used instead of eyeshadow or with it. It can go over creme based shadows.

I have added M.A.C. pigments to body creme's, lip glosses, hair gels, nail polish (both clear and color). I've used them as highlighters for face and body. You can use them for virtually just about anything.

They are one color when dry but tend to intensify when wet. It's a very versatile product. Lots of fun and tends to become a collectors item to many. For more on M.A.C. Pigments go to http://specktra.net/ and register. It's basically a pro-M.A.C. site where you can even purchase samples of pigments.

Hope you found this helpful,

Reply:Pigment is a substance that gives color to tissue. Pigments are responsible for the color of skin, eyes, and hair. I don't think you can "buy" pigment unless you're buying a product that changes the look of your pigment such as a self tanner lotion. Or a product may say the "pigment" is red but the product itself is not pigment. Pigment is a natural exsisting substance within your skin and inside your eyes and hair.
Reply:mac pigments are multi use. they're probably most popular as eyeshadows, but can also be used on lips, cheeks, nails, and pretty much anywhere. the mac pro store sells several mixing mediums, to change the consistancy of the powder, for the different uses, or they can be mixed with water/visine/etc.

Is losing pigment in your skin a weakines or adaptabilty like camophlage?

No, its a condition called vitiligo, which is caused by loss of melanocites in the skin. It is not something that will cause serious illnes, just that it discolours the skin. There are treatment options, like UV light, but you should see a demathologist. Also, in some countries, it is popularly called melancholy.

Well, it looks like the technical answer has been given, as for the camouflage effect, it only makes Michael Jackson stand out even more.

What is pigment?

Pigment is color

1 : a substance that imparts black or white or a color to other materials; especially : a powdered substance that is mixed with a liquid in which it is relatively insoluble and used especially to impart color to coating materials (as paints) or to inks, plastics, and rubber

2 : a coloring matter in animals and plants especially in a cell or tissue; also : any of various related colorless substances

Reply:pigment, substance that imparts color to other materials. In paint, the pigment is a powdered substance which, when mixed in the liquid vehicle, imparts color to a painted surface. The pigments used in paints are nearly all metallic compounds, but organic compounds are also used (see lake). Most black pigments are organic, e.g., bone black (animal black or charcoal) and lampblack. Some of the metallic pigments occur naturally. The brilliant and beautiful coloring of the rock and soil in some parts of the United States, especially in the Grand Canyon of the Colorado River, the Painted Desert of Arizona, and Bryce and Zion canyons of Utah, is largely produced by such compounds, chiefly oxides. Yellow ocher, sienna, and umber are oxides of iron. Litharge is a yellow oxide of lead. Red lead is also an oxide of this metal. Lead chromate, or chrome yellow, is an important yellow pigment. White lead, or basic lead carbonate, is a pigment long in use; it is rendered more durable by mixture with zinc oxide. Cadmium yellow is a sulfide of cadmium. Ultramarine is an important blue pigment, as is Prussian blue (ferric ferrocyanide). Green pigment is produced by mixing Prussian blue and chrome yellow. Vermilion (mercuric sulfide) is red. Pigments occur in plant and animal bodies. The bright colors of plants, for example, are the result of the presence of such substances as chlorophyll (green) and xanthophyll (yellow), both of which are also found in some animals. Among others are carotene, the yellow of carrots and certain other vegetables, and anthocyanin, which imparts blue, red, and purple to flowers. Blood receives its color from the hemoglobin in the red corpuscles. Coloration of human skin is caused by the presence of pigments (see pigmentation).

Why does pigment leakage decrease from a beetroot when it is cooked at 97 degrees C?

I have done an experiment into membrane permeabiltiy, i have peices of beetroot into heated water of different temps and used a colorimeter to find my results, these worked ok the results showed less light percentage on the colorimeter as the tep increased except at 97 degrees C. why does this happen any help will be a huge helps thanks in advance

Why does pigment leakage decrease from a beetroot when it is cooked at 97 degrees C?
I assume by "except at 97 degrees" you don't mean that at 96 and 98 degree everything was normal.

Say if you had 20, 60 and 97 degrees, the reason why the colorimeter shows a decrease at the highest temperature is that the pigments in the beet break down (I think they break down above 80 degrees). I'm not sure the mechanism, but I think its enhanced oxidation.

How does pigment capture the light of engery?
Pigments recieve light and cause electrons to be raised to an excited energy state. The electrons are then passed through an electron transport chain, which converts it into chemical energy by chemiosmosis.

Major photosynthetic pigment ?
If you are looking for a pigment then that would the the chlorophyll.
Reply:light reaction is not a photosynthetic pigment. Chlorophyll is a pigment in plant cells that is part of the light reaction.
Reply:If this is a choice question then the answer is B - Chlorophyll.

Chlorophyll actually consists of a number of pigments the most common being chlorophyll a and chlorophyll b. They both absorb light in different parts of the spectrum. There are also additional pigments such as carotene and xanthophyll. these absorb light at wavelength at which chlorophyll a nd b are not efficient. They then pass the energy to chlorophyll a and b to use.

If skin pigment can change thru prolonged exp to th sun, can it go in reverse...will black people...?

living in the uk become lighter in skin tone through each successive generation...or is it to some extent fixed.

i'm basically asking how changeable is skin colour over time, depending on what the climate is like where you live.

If skin pigment can change thru prolonged exp to th sun, can it go in reverse...will black people...?
I believe it is generally agreed that we came out of Africa, so assume that pale-skinned people's ancestors had darker pigmentation.

With the move to areas with less sun, we needed to be able to absorb Vitamin D more easily, so the black pigment decreased.

I guess that it works both ways over umpteen generations.
Reply:Yes.....in about 100 generations or so.
Reply:As far as i know, skin pigmenation is caused by melanin.

Color is hereditary and genetic. This characteristic is inherited from the dominant race. This is natural.

What you are asking is adaptation. Like, if the skin of Eskimos are thicker than Africans. Humans are capable of adaptation and will evolve over time to protect itself from natural elements.
Reply:I don't think black people can fade unless they have a skin disorder like Michael Jackson.
Reply:Skin colour changes temporarily when you get a tan. This does not have any effect on your childrens skin colour. However, there are natural variances in skin colour within families, and if lighter skin gives some offspring an advantage, then they should be able to have more children, and so lighter skin colour genes spread. Over time, the population gets lighter skin. Thats the basis of the out of Africa theory. It takes a long time though, and nowadays, populations don't stay isolated long enough for differences to spread. We move all over the planet, and have children with people of different ethnicity, both of which are good for our long term survival.

What is pigment?

In biology, a pigment is any material resulting in color of plant or animal cells. Many biological structures, such as skin, eyes, fur and hair contain pigments (such as melanin) in specialized cells called chromatophores. Many conditions affect the levels or nature of pigments in plant and animal cells. For instance, Albinism is a disorder affecting the level of melanin production in animals.

Pigment color differs from structural colour in that it is the same for all viewing angles, whereas structural color is the result of selective reflection or iridescence, usually because of multilayer structures. For example, butterfly wings typically contain structural color, although many butterflies have cells that contain pigment as well.

But...what?
Reply:It's chlorophyll. Chlorophyll is a green pigment found in most plants, algae, and cyanobacteria. Its name is derived from ancient Greek: chloros = green and phyllon = leaf. Chlorophyll absorbs light most strongly in the blue and red but poorly in the green portions of the electromagnetic spectrum, hence the green color of chlorophyll-containing tissues like plant leaves. Chlorophyll is vital for photosynthesis, which allows plants to obtain energy from light

What is pigment dispersion syndrome?

Pigment dispersion syndrome (PDS) is an affliction of the eye that, if left untreated, can lead a form of glaucoma known as pigmentary glaucoma. It takes place when pigment cells slough off from the back of the iris and float around in the aqueous humor. This is not what causes problems; however, if the pigment flakes clog the trabecular meshwork, preventing the liquids in the eye from draining, pressure can build up inside the eye. This pressure can cause permanent damage to the optic nerve.

This condition is rare, but occurs most often in Caucasians, particularly men, and the age of onset is relatively low: mid 20s to 40s. Most sufferers are nearsighted.

There is no cure as of yet, but PDS can be managed with eye drops or treated with simple surgeries. If caught early and treated, chances of glaucoma are greatly reduced. Sufferers are often advised not to engage in high-impact sports such as long-distance running or martial arts, as strong impacts can cause more pigment cells to slough off

Is purple pigment involved in photosynthesis?

Anthocyanins are the pigments that reflect red, blue, purple, or magenta colors. They are not involved in photosynthesis and are not even produced in leaves except briefly in early spring when the new growth appears flushed bronze or red, then again in fall to protect against UV damage. Anthocyanins appear most commonly to provide color to flowers and fruits.

Recent literature reports some 550 anthocyanins.

Dog losing pigment in its nose?

I have a bichon poo and I was just wondering why her nose turned from black when i got her to like a pinkish brownish color now this winter?

Dog losing pigment in its nose?
I have a mixed white sheperd that has the same thing. His nose turns extremely light brown, and the area around his eyes turn pink. Every year that happens about a week before the first snow storm. Go figure! The vet said that a lot of breeds are like that, so I wouldn't worry. Their bodies can probably tell us more about the environment that we know.
Reply:A%26amp;D ointment
Reply:no its getting older
Reply:I have a 4 month old Bichonpoo her nose isn't turning color so I wouldn't blame the weather. More than likely it is an allergy. Check with your vet.
Reply:Some poorly bred bichons are beginning to develop noses that turn pink as they age. Since people who mix breeds aren't using show quality dogs to start with, I'd bet the bichon parent of your dog comes from a bloodline that has pink noses, and your dog inherited the trait from him/her.

Just look closely and be sure the dog hasn't rubbed her nose raw in any way. But if the skin is intact, it's just a genetic flaw, and nothing to worry about.
Reply:Lack of iodine in the diet can cause pigmentation loss. Worst case scenario might be a skin cancer. Either way, for peace of mind, have your vet check it out

Is Pigment (stamp) Ink Bad For Self Tattooing?

i started giving myself a tattoo w/ stamp ink and a pin... is that really bad? i sterilized everything and everything.... so yea....

Is Pigment (stamp) Ink Bad For Self Tattooing?
unless your allergic to something in the ink, the ink wont make you sick. Hundreds of thousands of people have giving themselves crappy tattoos at home with primitive methods and they're fine...except for a bad tattoo that fades fast and never looked good in the first place...just keep it clean, like any wound.
Reply:Yes, it IS bad.

You have no idea what the toxic properties of that ink might be. For all you know, it's made of lead. And now it's under your skin.

Also, no, you didn't "sterilize" your stuff. I can almost guarentee it. You would need an autoclave to do that, and since they cost 2,000 bucks, I seriously doubt that someone cheap enough to self-tattoo would have one. Soaking it in rubbing alcohol doesn't "sterilize" it. Hepetitis will survive through that just fine.

I'm sorry, but I'm just going to come out with it: no one short of a total moron would ever tattoo themselves.
Reply:Well you already started, so that's pretty bad. I'd suggest rinsing and disinfecting the area and praying that it doesn't get infected or that there were any toxic chemicals in the ink. If you're going to give yourself a tattoo, try using something safer,...i'm pretty sure that India ink is safe, but you'd have to double chack that. But trying to give yourself a tattoo is stupid (though i have considered it myself..) unless you have some idea what you're doing.
Reply:You'll be lucky if you don't die from this, sweetheart. You did't sterilize anything, unless you own an autoclave.
Reply:Yeah. That was a 9 on the "Dumb things you shouldn't do to your body" scale of 1-10. Stop. Wash it. Let it heal. Start thinking of a meaningful tattoo you can get when you turn 18 that you can cover the scar with. Like Aramaic for "I will never try to tattoo my own flesh ever again"
Reply:self tattooing is horrible.. you're risking infection and they look like hell.. if you want a tattoo so bad then save up some money and go to a professional.. it will look a million times better than anything you could attempt to do at home.. it's worth the money in the end rather than poking ink into your own body..
Reply:Why on earth would you do such a careless thing.

Stamp ink has completely different chemicals in it then tattoo ink.

Tattooing yourself is not a smart thing to do period, but to add to it your not using the right equipment. You are risking a horrible infection.

Well later down the road IF for some reason it does manage to stay and I seriously doubt it will. You'll end up having it covered up by someone who knows what they are doing, costing you a lot more.
Reply:Uh, first of all, unless you have an autoclave, you didn't sterilize.

Secondly, the only ink that is safe to go in your body is tattoo ink.

If you're going to do a home made tattoo, do a real home made tattoo and use India...jeez
Reply:I don't know. The only ink in tattooing is black. The colored 'ink' is pigment. So I'm not sure what you mean.

PUPPYS pigment!!!?

my puppy at seven weeks still has a redish nose, but is getting darker like it has blackness to it but is still redish aswell.... its a maltese, IHAVE NOT GOT HER FROM HER MOTHER YET.

but have seen photos....

WILL HER NOSE FILL IN??

AND DOES IT AFFECT HER HEALTH??

PLEASE HELP!!

PUPPYS pigment!!!?
It is not likley a health issue, but you can't count on it becoming black. Sometimes they will go ahead and get darker, but not always. Now if it is VERY red, and not just pinkish, it could be something wrong..as most puppies, if their nose isn't black, it is pinkish to brown..

Here are several pages of typical Maltese puppies..%26gt; http://images.google.com/images?client=f...
Reply:it ok white dog some times have the redish thing on there nose
Reply:It may or may not change colors, thay are sooooo cute and I love pink noses even half pink noses it makes them so much more interesting. It does not have any health issues as far as I have ever heard. My daughters Rat terrier has pink and black on her nose. My older mutt had black with brown spots....hummmm strange. Don't worry, just make sure the mother and father are healthy and that it isn't a puppy mill....there are many and they can fool you with pictures, I always visit before I buy. The only for sure way to see the environment. It's an emotional and a financial investment, have heard of many people epending many hundreds of dollars on sick puppies out of love from this awful practice. just be sure OK? good luck. Happy Puppying.
Reply:Puppies usually start to develop their pigmentation shortly after birth. If your pup still has no black pigmentation on her nose at 7 weeks then I would suggest that it is unlikely she will develop the required black pigment for a maltese.

Skin pigment colour in mixed race newborn baby...?

My brother is white. His girlfriend is black (she's African). They've just had a baby boy (Zach...two days old - very cute) and he's very light in colour (almost pink) but has dark brown eyes .

Is this the colour he will always be - or will his skin start to darken as he gets older...? Nobody we've spoken to really knows...

Skin pigment colour in mixed race newborn baby...?
All dark skinned races, mixed or not, have babies who are born lighter than what they usually end up being later. You can't be 100% sure exactly how dark or light they will be for the first 6 months to a year or so, and sometimes a little longer. They can stay exactly the same color as when they were born, or get very dark, or anywhere in between. If they do get darker, it happens gradually over the first year or so.
Reply:He'll get a little darker. But you'll just have to wait and see. My daughter is half hispanic, 1/4 white, 1/4 black and she had a yellow skin tone till she was 10 mts and now she looks black.
Reply:only time will tell.
Reply:He'll probably get darker as he gets older, but it's impossible to tell. What difference does it make? No baby of any race stays the same color that they were as a newborn.
Reply:His color will change - but who knows which way it will go.

My daughter is mixed and started out darker, then gradually got lighter. Now that she is in her teens though, her skin is darkening.

Still beautiful! :) I believe mixed race people are our future! :)
Reply:He will get darker, it takes a little while. Even some newborn full african babies can look just like their caucasian counterparts right after birth.
Reply:Not to be rude or anything, but what difference does it make?

Tattoo pigment powder?

I am not sure of the exact question but here is an answer...

All tattoo pigments are just that pigments.pretty much everything has Powder pigments that is were the color comes from.Just like oil paint, airbrush paint, and acrylics are all the same powdered pigments but they have different bases like oil or water and so on.The difference is mostly what is added to that. Tattooing uses a sterile base. The best thing i found to do is try them for your self every one has a slightly different style as fare as actually putting the ink in the skin. Some people like a thicker pigment some people rather a thinner viscosity.I am pretty sure when you are finished you will like a certain color from almost every company. The predisposed tend to be very concentrated.Remember sometimes you want subtle sometimes you want complete saturation.I personally like them all i like the stable for more earthy subtle look.I like the unique reds and oranges and the star bright canary yellow and intense opaque white and so on there is really no certain answer.GOOD LUCK:)

yeah that is what ink is made of you take it and mix it with witch hazel or distilled water and or glycerin

Skin "pigment" changes to lighter tone temporarily in certain spots on arms and legs only?

What is this condition? It seems more to do with circulation or something rather being a skin condition but I have no idea. This only occurs on my arms and legs and perhaps the most notable aspect is that the little splotches, no bigger than a pea, only become noticeably apparent in changes in temperature. As for when it those certain areas become exposed to different temperatures. It only seems to occur on the extremities also as in forearms and lower legs.

Any ideas? I know it's not vitiligo.

if it's really light, and getting quite dry, then i really suggest you see a doc. nothing major, many ppl actually have it, but then he can tell you what to do exactly to prevent it from getting worse

Hi,

You did not say what was causing it.So I assume that you have not gone to a doctor to find out,or are scared to.soooooooo,

here is a temporary solution to the problem.

I am assuming that you are not a real light person. So this is what you do.

Brew 2 cups strong black tea,let it cool, and pour into a plastic spray bottle.Make sure your skin is clean and dry. Then spray the tea directly onto your skin and let it air-dry.Repeat as desired for a healthy-looking glowing tan.So I would put this on the spots untill I can see the doctor. This will also work to give a man's face a more natural look after shaving off a beard.

Split pigment on puppy nose? (Cavalier King Charles)?

Bought a blenheim Cavalier puppy recently with a 1:2 pink/black nose. Pink portion has a black dot. 7 weeks. Will it change to all black when she gets older?

ps. Both parents have entirely black noses, but the entire litter of puppies have funny patchy ones, some more than others.

pps. Read all other questions about this, but want to know specifically for Cavaliers. Thanks!

Split pigment on puppy nose? (Cavalier King Charles)?
If the puppy is only 6 weeks old you maybe alright and it may change when it's older. But in reality you really shouldn't have the puppy with you yet at that age. It really should be with its birth mother for another 2 weeks. My puppies that I've bred were always born the tri-color. After reading your question I was looking at their noses in pictures and noticed their noses were almost completely black at 4 weeks of age. But the Blenheim's may take longer for their noses to change to black because they are a dog of lighter pigmentation. But i do remember when i got my first Blenheim at 8 weeks of age her nose was already completely black. But the fact that the breeder let you take home the puppy at 6 weeks, they don't sound to me to be responsible breeders and their dogs they are breeding are most likely not show quality. Depending on the genetics of the dogs they are breeding there maybe a possibility the nose may stay pink but i doubt it. I've really never met a Cavalier with a half pink nose. They've always had completely black noses. Just like my dogs with genetics both my dogs i bred together were 14 and 15 lbs. The one puppy we kept is 7 months old and already weighs 18 lbs. But his Maternal Grandparents weigh 17 and 18 lbs so he most likely took after the grandparents. And his hair has a soft fluffy texture to it on his legs, chest, and cheeks. And neither of his parents or Grandparents have that type of hair. so who knows what our dogs will turn out to be when they mature. Plus it takes 3 to 4 years before Cavaliers are fully matured with all their hair.
Reply:most likely it will fill in...it can take a while... every once in a while you will have a puppy that does not get all his pigmentation...is this litter for showing? if not it really does not matter
Reply:They usually do not get all black. One of the ways breeders determine which CKC's to keep for showing is the nose comformity, and they usually determine that at about 6 weeks.
Reply:Cavalier puppies can often have some pink in their noses. Generally, if both parents have black noses and no pink pigment showing, you puppy stands a good chance of having her nose fill in completely. It is never 100%, but odds are her nose will fill in completely black.

Congratulations on your cavalier puppy.

Skin pigment has changed in certain area.. What do I do?

I am fully aware that I should really go to a dermotologist..

But I am afraid of the news I may get, so instead I will just ask it here.

In the past 6-9 months, I have noticed these two bloches of color that have appeared on my testes. When they first appeared, they were tiny.. Smaller than a dime. Now, they are larger than quarters. There's two of them, and the skin color is completely different. These two spots, are almost a bright pink color.

I will eventually go to a dermotologist. But for now, has anybody else experienced similar problems? Can you let me know what you think it may be... will it ever go back to normal?

It's just embarassing really. Please, what is the problem?

Does it itch or burn? It could be skin irritation or jock itch. But go to the doctor anyway. forget about being embarrassed, it's the doctors job to deal with this stuff
Reply:It could be a type of STD...or skin cancer...go to the dermatologist ASAP

I have some of it as well. I do have Lupus, but my dr also thinks I have a mild case of Vitalago. there are those that have massive loss of pigmintation, and those that have a little bit here and there. I would try to get a referral to a dermatologist. if you are seeing just your family dr, they may not know as much as a rhuemotologist or a dermatologist. I also have some patches of darker skin. and ligheter skin, but mainly lighter skin, but no swelling anyplace.
Reply:I would recheck Vitiligo with your doctor. My nephew has this also my father had it. Did you go to a dermatologist?

Use all natural hair makeup brushes. Big fluffy brushes are great and always make a big difference.

But remember to keep them washed with shampoo frequently and then shake out good and stand to dry.

They'll last forever if you get good ones.
Reply:You need to buy make-up brushes to apply these. And be sure to wash and disinfect them properly. Although you can find cheap brushes, more expensive ones are best since they are made of more quality materials.

Does pigment come from pork?

How much Melatonin do you get from eating pork?

Does pigment come from pork?
We make our own melanin from the amino acid tyrosine.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melanin
Reply:melatonin is a hormone that is responsible for the body's circardian rhythm (biological clock) that tells us when to sleep and wake up. this is produced in the pineal gland.

melanin is a pigment produced by the melanocytes in the stratum basale of the epidermis of the skin. the amount of melanin produced by the body depends upon the gene you have inherited from your parents.

i hope this helps....

Skin pigment changes to lighter tone temporarily in certain spots on arms and legs only?

What is this condition? It seems more to do with circulation or something rather being a skin condition but I have no idea. This only occurs on my arms and legs and perhaps the most notable aspect is that the little splotches, no bigger than a pea, only become noticeably apparent in changes in temperature. As for when it those certain areas become exposed to different temperatures. It only seems to occur on the extremities also as in forearms and lower legs.

Any ideas?

Removing pigment from hair melanin?

to make lighter wat do i use???????????????

no salon or expensive stuff

Removing pigment from hair melanin?
Anything that's worth it, anything that will safely do a good job, is going to be expensive. But a few cheap ways to lighten a too dark dye job are to use a clarifying shampoo, a dandruff shampoo, Prell shampoo and/or a dishwashing detergent. The sooner you use those products after dying, the better your results will be. Or maybe try highlights, that'll help lighten up a too dark color.

White pigment of vegetables?

Leafy vegetables that are white were grown with a lack of light to prevent photosynthesis, which puts the green in the leaves.
