Pigment and natural wax. But what else? And how can I prepare it? In the microwave? Benmarrie (or something?)
Is there a way to create your own oil colours for painting from scractch? I know i need pigment but what else?
You have to mix in at least pigment and medium, and then there can be other ingredients like wax, turpentine, and other modifying agents. You might be able to melt the wax in a microwave, but I would avoid them because pigments may contain metals, which would be hazardous to microwave, and the oil could get bubbles and burn you, etc. It's pretty easy to make basic oil paint using pigments and medium, see specific instructions below.
Reply:You will need:
finely ground pigment
linseed oil (or safflower oil for pale colors)
A glass muller
A flat piece of glass
A palette knife
an empty metal paint tube
The only ingredients you need to make oil paint are pigment and oil. See link below for good instructions and pictures on how to make paint.
Natural wax (beeswax) is usually dissolved in mineral spirits to make a wax medium used to alter the body and handling of paint, not in making the paint itself. Beeswax is sometimes sold in small pellets so it is easier to dissolve. No heat is involved.
